Judy Tarantino's vinegar painting is a variation of a decorative Faux painting technique with a history in early American furniture. Craftsmen stained or painted, then varnished, local woods to disguise the use of different woods on a single piece of furniture.
Judy has become one of these craftsmen. While admiring her work on display at Stanford Art Gallery, Tarantino loves to explain the technique and basic science of this art form. The manipulation of applied layers and the chemical reactions which occur, create a timeless look on ordinary objects.
